The position

An opportunity has arisen for an investment analyst within the Infrastructure team. The candidate will work across the five infrastructure funds currently managed by InfraRed:

  • InfraRed Infrastructure Fund III, a private greenfield infrastructure fund raised in 2011;
  • HICL, a £2.0bn listed brownfield social infrastructure fund;
  • TRIG, a £700m listed brownfield renewable energy infrastructure fund;
  • InfraRed Environmental Infrastructure Fund, a private greenfield environmental infrastructure fund raised in 2009; and
  • InfraRed Infrastructure Yield Fund, private brownfield infrastructure fund raised in 2012.

The candidate will be based in London and may be required to travel to other offices to assist in supporting transactions.

“Greenfield infrastructure”, involves the sourcing and execution of new-build projects through their development, design, construction and management of those projects during their early operating phases. The focus is on Public Private Partnerships (“PPPs”), which are usually based around long-term concessions with public-sector counterparties as well as transportation and energy related infrastructure including renewable energy.

“Brownfield infrastructure”, involves the sourcing, execution and management of operational infrastructure projects whether it is in the social infrastructure, transportation sector or renewable energy space.

InfraRed is one of the longest-standing investors in the infrastructure sector and has been investing in social infrastructure since the mid 1990’s and renewables since 2006.

We focus on developed economies with robust and enforceable legal frameworks, primarily in Europe, North America, Latin America (Mexico, Colombia and Chile), Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and other OECD countries with some limited scope to invest in emerging markets.

The main responsibilities for the position include:

  • Semi-annual valuations of the portfolios, together with review of financial model updates from project companies;
  • In depth examination of the investment portfolio to identify savings and other value enhancements such as refinancing;
  • Updating fund forecast models to look at future projections for business planning, modelling of equity returns and key commercial and financial inputs (including debt facilities and further equity capital raisings);
  • Support the origination, analysis, structuring, documentation and execution of infrastructure investment opportunities with a primary focus on Europe, with flexibility to work across other target regions;
  • Other analytical, research and modelling support for the team including competitor analysis and market reviews;
  • Assist in managing and reviewing all due diligence and structuring work-streams including the management of financial, legal and technical advisers;
  • Assist in preparation of presentations of investment opportunities to the investment committee;
  • Participate as required in reporting processes.
Candidate profile

We expect the ideal candidate to have the following attributes:

  • Relevant infrastructure knowledge – i.e. internship/s with  developer, adviser, industrial sponsor, infrastructure fund, project finance advisory and/or lending institution;
  • Fluent in English and at least one of the following European languages - French, German or Dutch;
  • Excellent financial modelling skills, with an eye for accuracy;
  • Analytically rigorous and detail oriented particularly with regards to numerical analysis, legal documentation and written reports;
  • Able to grasp the key commercial drivers in relation to existing assets and new transactions, including what the key drivers are for value enhancement;
  • Able to synthesize complex matters effectively and concisely;
  • Have an enthusiastic and tenacious approach with a strong commitment to learning;
  • Able to manage involvement in a number of simultaneous initiatives, deliver work to agreed deadlines, and work well with a variety of individuals across a complex and evolving business;
  • Educated to a degree level and above and can demonstrate a strong academic record.

The Position

An opportunity has arisen for an investment director/executive to join the Infrastructure team to support its goal to:

  • Provide best-in-class Investor Relations (“IR”) services to HICL, maintain high investor/shareholder satisfaction and achieve high re-ups from existing investors / shareholders
  • Research and identify new sources of capital for further fund / capital raises
  • Manage InfraRed’s external communications in relation to HICL to “best-in-class” standards, both in terms of quality, timeliness and evolution.

The day-to-day activities of the candidate will be focused on leading the Investor Relations activities in relation to the advice and support that InfraRed provides HICL and the HICL Board.  This includes leading on shareholder engagement (with the senior team), the preparation of high quality, routine shareholder reports, publications, circulars, prospectuses and RNSs as well as project and communication management in relation to the wider InfraRed Investor Relations activities.

The main responsibilities for the position include:

Working with the Business Head, the InfraRed team advising HICL, the HICL board, other advisers and InfraRed IR team, take a proactive role on the regular shareholder and board reporting cycles

  • Take the leading role in the project management and drafting of all shareholder documentation (reports, investor presentations and factsheets, RNS / result releases), with engagement and direct assistance of team members
  • Lead on evolving and developing the key communication messages in consultation with the team, Board and advisers
  • Prepare and coordination all IR materials for Board meetings and lead on IR discussions / topics
  • Organise logistics for investor road show with advisers
  • Keep internal team appraised of all key developments and processes arising from the role
  • Compare HICL IR materials to peer group and wider listed market to learn, evolve and develop HICL’s shareholders materials further, with aim of being best-in-class
  • Build a detailed level of knowledge in underlying industry sectors and capital markets, with curiosity and initiative to maintain a leading-edge in analysing market developments.

Contribute to making InfraRed’s Investor Relation function best in class

  • Proactively suggest ways to make the team and HICL function more efficient and professional by sharing best practice, feeding-back comments from third parties, anticipating trends and seeking to understand investors’ needs and concerns
  • Work closely with the equivalent InfraRed colleague(s) performing a similar role for TRIG to share market knowledge and practices so as to learn from feedback on both HICL and TRIG from the investment community and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to, and take ownership of relevant components of the annual IRCP investor event
  • Continually review and ensure content of investor reporting for HICL is accurate, relevant and delivered in a cost-effective manner
  • Review developments amongst competitors, keep competitor data current and share feedback from advisers

Lead efforts to ensure high re-ups from existing investors/shareholders and key prospective accounts

  • Leading IR team role on ensuring all investor / analysts / consultants / website queries are dealt with in a timely, accurate and professional manner (with particular focus on, those relating to HICL)
  • Be the point person for all HICL investor/analyst/market queries (including website enquiries) and work with wider team to address in timely manner
  • Keep relevant HICL / TRIG / IR members informed of key queries and developments on work-streams ‘owned’ by the incumbent
  • Manage the analysis of relevant share registers to ensure systematic coverage of the existing HICL shareholders, with comparison to the TRIG register
  • Proactively contribute to and engage in key InfraRed investor account coverage – identification of investors with investment potential for InfraRed products; assist preparations for designated key account meetings (both HICL, TRIG and other unlisted InfraRed funds); proactively look for opportunities to introduce / reaffirm HICL’s benefits and promote the wider InfraRed product base, where appropriate
  • Ensure all meaningful (existing and prospective) investor interactions (including key information / feedback) are recorded into the CRM system, and use the system to develop potential new investors

Capital raising

  • With the team, take the leading role on the project management of all HICL capital raising activities
  • Coordinate all capital raising activities, including choosing the method of capital raising, adviser selection, adviser mandate terms, obtaining board approvals, drafting documentation, reviewing documentation prepared by others, seeking verification sign-offs and coordinating investor roadshows and follow-ups.
  • Work with the  IR team and relevant business line teams, contribute to plans to access new sources of capital within and outside InfraRed investor base, and implementation of the same

External communications – Manage the following:

  • the preparation of all HICL external communications, where appropriate – e.g., press releases, investor letters and Twitter feeds
  • the Requests for Information from third parties (conferences, consultants, trade associations)
  • Media enquiries relating to HICL, in close contact with PR agency and other team members
  • Lead, with HICL team, on devising and refining coherent messages for all stakeholders, especially as these concern HICL’s evolution for the future
  • Ensure HICL website regularly checked for accuracy and relevance and is kept up to date (including regular update of the HICL factsheet)
  • Cross-sell best practice between InfraRed, HICL and TRIG
  • Suggest and assist with suitable initiatives (e.g. thought-leadership pieces) and communications channels

Candidate profile

We expect the ideal candidate to have the following attributes:

  • Relevant detailed experience in working in the UK listed company/fund market on investor relations; shareholder communications; fund raising; and shareholder engagement
  • Additional experience of corporate finance / investment banking; private equity or infrastructure investing an advantage
  • Excellent written English and ability to draft high quality copy
  • Good commercial acumen, with curiosity – within 12 months understand the details of the HICL portfolio well and be able to talk credibly about the broader infrastructure market
  • Ability to multitask, plan ahead, meet tight deadlines and remain unfazed when the unexpected arises
  • Outgoing and able to participate credibly in investor meetings and calls (with relevant HICL team colleagues)
  • Service-oriented, ‘can do’ attitude with strong attention to detail, strong presentation skills
  • Familiar with CRM database management
  • Numerate with, at a minimum, fundamental accounting and valuation knowledge

The Accountant, Central Finance supports the Group Financial Controller in ensuring the finance team provides internal and external stakeholders with a best-in-class financial accounting service through the provision of accurate and timely reporting through a well-controlled and efficient accounting process.

The IRCP Central Finance team is headed by the Group Financial Controller (GFC) and comprises of two Accountants, the Assistant Accountant and the Business and Finance Administrator. All members of the team report to the Group Finance Controller.

The main responsibilities for the position include:

Reporting and Analysis

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to the GFC for presentation to management and for external audit purposes
  • Responsible for preparation of group consolidation on a management accounting and statutory basis
  • Managing preparation of all inter-group fees and recharges between all group companies
  • Complete group VAT and FCA returns on a timely and accurate basis
  • Assist with collation of information and presentation of forecasts and ensure forecast schedules are updated throughout the year
  • Ad-hoc reporting as requested by the business

Financial control

  • Effective input and review of GL for all InfraRed group entities, ensuring that the GL data is complete, accurate and delivered in a timely manner
  • Responsible for balance sheet reconciliation processes on a group and company level basis, (e.g. investment, debtors, creditors)

Cash flow and transaction management

  • Provide effective operational cash management, cash flow processing and deposit management through maintaining a secure banking platform

 Other

  • Develop better ways of working and assist the GFC with new initiatives to improve reporting and control
  • Oversight and review of the work of the AA and the B&FA and ensure their technical development

Candidate profile

We are looking for someone who is keen to further their chosen career in accounting and has the following experience and attributes:

Essential

  • Holds a technical accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA)
  • Educated to a degree level or above
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter, who can add value as part of a team
  • Highly numerical with an excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Is well organised and able to prioritise multiple tasks to tight deadlines
  • Is confident dealing with people at all levels across the business

  • Experience within an in-house finance team or in practice with an audit background

  • Experience of preparing management accounts and SUN GL (or a similar package)
