Secondary Infrastructure
The term ‘secondary infrastructure’ also known as ‘brownfield infrastructure’ is usually defined as the investment in existing infrastructure assets which are generally in their operational, cash-yielding phases.
In March 2006, the team successfully launched HICL Infrastructure Company Limited, the first investment company listed on the London Stock Exchange to invest in yielding infrastructure projects. HICL was seeded with the assets purchased from InfraRed’s first infrastructure development fund.
InfraRed’s infrastructure team responsible for transacting in secondary infrastructure assets is the investment adviser to HICL and focuses on lower-risk investments, primarily projects with availability-based revenues from public sector counterparties such as Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
The skill set involved in acquiring, managing and selling secondary infrastructure assets includes thorough due diligence, detailed financial analysis and active operational management. The InfraRed team has been successfully deploying these skills since 1997.
